Found in Early September 2022 as caterpillars on my fennel. Moved into a butterfly cage on a pot of parsley Sept 8. First chrysalis formed September 11. September 13 had 6 more chrysalis and two more which had fixed to a stick but not in a chrysalis yet. One eclosed September 22 and second on September 24. Rest Overwintered in butterfly cage on screen porch. They have emerged over a wide spread of time: March 11, March 27, April 5, April 11 and May 9. Still have two unopened chrysalis as of May 9, 2023. Also show picture of two of the empty chrysalis showing variation in coloration. Dark one is very well hidden on dark branch. Other was made on clear plastic ended up tan. Update another eclosed July 31!! Guess I will not give up on the last one.

Wrens were able to keep their young alive through last weeks cold rain. Recently fledged. Able to flit up to good height. At least 4 maybe a few more

First picture April 3rd, 2nd pic April 6, last dead birds after two cold very rainy days (over 5 inches after near constant rain) photo April 10th but observed dead on 9th. Nest observed with four eggs a few days before first pic. On April 10 only 1 unhatched egg found

Blooming which I read is not common. Found growing I my rather shady fescue lawn. I pretty much ignore this lawn. Mowing 2-3 times per year as fescue stays low. Gets lots of pine needles on it

Helianthus hybrid ‘Lemon Queen’ stem with green holes in stem from some type of insect. Fairly sure this was growth from 2021. I leave many stems to provide habitat plant was cultivated for native bees and wasps. Plant was cultivated but not critter who made holes.

My last monarch finally eclose . It took so long I thought it had died. Formed chrysalis on 9/29 eclose 10/27. Others that were caterpillars about same time eclosed 10/7 This one was a female.

Eggs layed on my Asclepius after hatching moved to butterfly cage. This male and female enclosed this morning. Released onto joe pre weed.
