Description

Trapdoor spider - but which one?

about1 inch long
when we were taking out the front "lawn", this female was found (alive) in a pile of dirt that had been dug up. We put her under some verbena in the front yard and hope she was able to re-establish a "home"

Description

It was on the highest flower/stem of an Almond Verbena (~6 ft tall) - and we saw its front legs reaching out - a behavior we've seen in predators. Shortly after this photo was taken, it got prey, which appears to be Poecilognathus. I have included some of the series of photos I took during the predation.

Black with white markings, bluish green fangs. Was hidden in its web-nest in a curled up leaf - the 3rd photo is the first of the 3 chronilogically - all you see is the 2 main eyes behind the webbing. I tried gently lifting the curled leaf to get a better view, and it did a quick exit to a lower leaf. the 2nd photo is after it went back in its curled leaf
