Snorkeling near the inlet it was low tide so we couldn't snorkel in. We were hoping to spot Banded Kokopu in the inlet.
Approx the size of my hand 150mm.
Again snorkeling as it was low tide and only about 3.5 m at this area near the inlet. This is still in the Tonga Island Reserve. Was only in 1.5 m on the underside of a boulder, it was a very creamy orange colour. I knew it was a chiton but thought it was quite unusual.
There were some attached to kelp on nearly every boulder in this small area on this side of the harbour.
Snorkeling at low tide in another part of the reserve. There were a lot here in this small area.
Interesting purple shell found at mount beach.
Not sure what it is
One of many juveniles seen under schist rocks in shallow rock pools exposed mid-tide on shore platform.
Occasional shells noted washed up along strandline of schist sand beach.
