I don't know for certain that this is paropus, but it is clearly NOT M. notatus or sadyates, the two species we found previously in the park, as this one's femora are orange-tipped. If the bristles on the pro-femur that are visible at this angle are diagnostic, that is what I would call it, but I think the bristles are only on the ventral side? Anyway, for the time being, this may be a good guess showing that we found another species. The other three species known for the region that have orange-tipped femora are M. snowii (probably the most common), M. erythrocnemius and M. lecythus.

Description

This specimen is an example of an undescribed Blastodannca species associated with Blastodacna bicristatella. It is discussed in the new Canadian Lepidoptera Checklist here:

"NOTE: We list records here only of the true B. bicristatella ... Another much larger undescribed species is known from BC to NS, and was incorrectly treated as B. bicristatella by Pohl et al. (2010, 2014). To further complicate matters, true B. bicristatella has been erroneously referred to in many publications as Blastodacna curvilineella. There is no such taxon, and is the result of confusion with Batrachedra curvilineella in the Batrachedridae."

and at Bugguide.net here:

"BOLD:AAB2791 - nr. Blastodacna bicristatella
BOLD shows specimens similar to this under Blastodacna bicristatella. The species contains two Barcode Index Number Registry (BIN) groups. The two BINs are each others closest neighbors though the separation at about 8% suggests they are not the same species. Based on the original description, one appears correctly identified but the other, BOLD:AAB2791 appears to be a missidetification ... of an undescribed species represented by that BIN. The BOLD data points include Quebec, Ontario and Alberta."
